We want to position Wales as a technology powerhouse throughout the world, and we know this ambition starts close to home. We are committed to supporting and growing the foundational economy in Wales.
As a vibrant, rapidly expanding facility the NDEC relies on a wide range of local businesses and services to help us do what we do. Our trusted suppliers provide us with everything from catering, security and cleaning services, to building work, furniture and equipment. Through these relationships, we’re able to create jobs, support the regeneration of the South Wales Valleys and ensure the wider community knows about the work we do and how to access the services we offer.
A key element of our partnership with Welsh Government is a commitment to support regeneration of South-East Wales and develop the Foundational Economy to deliver economic success and long term prosperity in the area.
The NDEC Showcase week in February 2020 was an opportunity to demonstrate this support in terms of targets achieved – £1m spent in the local area with 53 local suppliers. This figure now that as of Q3 2020, stands at £1.3m, utilising 85 local suppliers.
Our suppliers cover all areas and our commitment is about more than just spending money locally – we have developed good working relationships with a number of key suppliers, helping to develop and expand their own businesses, take on additional staff and reach more customers.
One of our service providers has recruited from the local area as a direct result of their contract with us, another is now set up as a supplier to WG and provides their services to additional local companies thanks to their relationship with us.
As part of the Industry Day hosted at the NDEC, a number of our local suppliers exhibited, helping them to further grow their business and through this 3 of our local suppliers were engaged by Thales UK to support their contribution to Cyber College Cymru.
